The Plakatstil or “Poster Style” movement emerged in Germany between 1900 and 1930. The main characteristic of this style are strong central image, bold lines of the font, often in hand-drawn block letters, with very simple design and emphasis on flat colours and shapes. Plakatstil moved away from complex decorative style of the Art Nouveau and set new standards for modern commercial posters.

Having been looking at vintage posters and illustrations for my monthly calendar inspiration, I found The Art Poster’s bold colours, hand drawn type, beautiful illustrations are jut amazing and very inspiring and I would like to share it with you.

The modern poster dates back to 1870s when invention of colour lithography allowed artist to achieve vibrant colours and cheap mass production. By the 1890s in France (“Belle Epoque”) a number of artists created poster art in this period, foremost amongst them Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec and Jules Chéret (“The Father of the Poster”).

The poster art has been recognized as an art form and attracted many well known artists. Commercial success of the poster art led to a major exhibition in Paris in 1884; Great Britain and Italy in 1894, Germany in 1896 and Russia in 1897. The most significant exhibition of that time was held in Reims, France in 1896 (1690 posters).

In the 1890s poster art became important part of Art Nouveau style characterized by flowing, organic lines, elegant grace, and a richly complex symbolism. Alphonse Mucha and Eugène Grasset were the most influential poster designers of this generation.

The Art Poster spreads through Europe and the United States. Each countries developed their distinctive national style. In France the cult of the café; in Italy the opera and fashion; in Spain the bullfight and festivals; in Germany trade fairs and magazines; in Britain and America literary journals and the circus.

Onedotzero is a film festival showcasing the best of new digital film and animation. Without doubt the OneDotZero Adventure in Motion at BFI was the most exciting design event in London of the last month.

I would like to share with you some of the great animation I have seen there (New British Talent 2009, J-Star 09 & Extended Play 09). I would recommend you to check works by Laurie Hill, Phil & Olly, David Ochs or Satoshi Tomioka’s Usavich which will make you laugh.

I hope you enjoy the work of these brilliant artists. If you have seen some other really stunning animations from OneDotZero please feel free to post the links.

Electronic Arts (EA) is a well-known U.S. video publisher with titles such as NFL, The Sims, Need for Speed, Medal of Honor, Battlefield and Command & Conquer series. They also publish games based on popular movies including The Lord of The Ring, The Godfather, Harry Potter, Batman and G.I. Joe.

The logo is different in almost every game. Each version takes on certain visual aspect of the game, but still keeps shape of the EA letters the same and the logo always remains in the circle.

EA logo is the best example how to extend the brand and still keep its original brand value. Logo variations are easily recognizable as EA brand, but with characteristic look and feel of the product. This appeals to the gamers and keeps EA logo fresh and engaging.

Some of the examples are not official EA logo, but created by fans and designers. I would really appreciate if you could help me to identify the rest of the logos and their authors if possible. I suppose most of them were created in-house EA designers.

I am sorry for low image quality of some of the logos. But it was hard to find good quality for all logos. Nevertheless I hope you enjoy it.
