Weapons of Mass Communication: War Posters
War posters at Imperial War Museum in London.
4th October 2007 to 30th March 2008.
Weapons of Mass Communication is great exhibition showing one of the most iconic posters from the First World War onwards. The exhibition mainly focus on posters during First World War and Second War War and just slightly touch 1960s – 70s and more recent materials from the Iraq demonstrations.
You can see there the most famous posters by Alfred Leete, James Montgomery Flagg, H. R. Erdt, Julius Klineger, Julius Gipkens, Ludwig Hohlwein, Abel Faivre, Abram Games and many many others.
I liked that all posters were side by side and that it allows you to see what different countries are doing at the same time. Its a pity that exhibition doesn’t cover any of Japanese or Chinese war posters at all. Exhibition isn’t really big and you might not get necessary distance from the posters, but it is definitely worthy to see.
Exhibition is accompanying by book written by Dr James Aulich, published by Thames & Hudson containing over 300 full colour images of posters, price £19.95. I would recommend to check the book on exhibition and buy it from Amazon and save 35%.
